Foucault, Derrida, Lacan, Deleuze, Althusser, Barthes… Familiar names in the US academy since the 1980s. Their work has had important and wide-ranging contributions to cultural, historical, and political analysis. Their hegemony in the academic scene, however, means that other voices have been muted, voices that we seek to make resonate.
Thus, without rejecting en bloc the above body of work, we proposer to construct an alternative bibliography of French Theory. This bibliography places front and center radical social critique: anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist, staunchly democratic, and egalitarian.
